Here are some frequently asked questions and
answers that every promoter should read.
What style of music do you play?
Contemporary Rock Worship. Popular songs from bands like Third Day, Casting Crowns, Lincoln
Brewster, Kutless, Todd Agnew, Day of Fire, Chris Tomlin, Tree63, Starfield,
etc. Our goal is to play songs people know to that enhance the message of the event.
Do you give personal testimonies and teach
from the Bible between songs? Yes. We see music as a tool to
teach the truths of God's Word and lead others in singing out in vocal worship
to Him. Some venues require discretion in how much teaching we do.
As the salt of the earth, followers of Jesus need to sometimes sprinkle the
message and not pour it on people. If there are obviously a lot of unsaved
people in the audience, our message may be geared to them in language they would
understand related to salvation. If the audience is primarily brothers and
sisters in Christ our message might be urging them to a deeper commitment to
Him. We will minister as God's leads us and as you, the promoter
desire. You are hiring us to do a job. We want you to tell us what
you are hoping to accomplish at your event.
What age level of people will your ministry
relate to? We believe people from youth to adult will enjoy our
program and relate to our message. Small children will probably not relate to
the music and some of our personal testimonies may be age inappropriate for
them.
What do you charge for an event?
Rates vary depending on the needs of the promoter. Fee’s may or may not include:
Rental of Sound System/Lights, travel expenses i.e. food, accommodations, fuel
costs. Given the high cost of fuel, gas reimbursement will be expected for any
location 25 miles outside of the Mount Joy PA area. We do not have a set
fee for every venue. We offer three different event scenarios for you to
consider:
-
Event Type #1 - Complete Package
This package would include a full sound system and
lighting run by a professional sound company. This would also include
screens and projectors to display the song lyrics photos and scripture
verses. This type of event is obviously best for larger audiences.
It will be more expensive but well worth the money.
-
Event Type #2 - Basic Sound The
band would use the venue's existing sound system provided it meets some
minimum requirements that would need to be discussed in advance. Venue
would need to provide screens and projectors with computers to run
PowerPoint presentations, or media may not be able to be provided. If
a church or venue has a modern sound system, this is a good way to go.
Sound quality is very important. Our multi-media presentation
is very important to enhance the message.
-
Event Type #3 - Bare Bones The
band would provide a small system of their own and possibly media
presentation if venue has equipment to accommodate it. This type of
event is for audiences under 40 people in a small room. The sound
quality would be greatly compromised in a larger room.
What should I expect to see on stage at an
event? The band will play Contemporary Rock Worship with Bible
teaching and personal testimonies of band members woven into the program. Song
lyrics and Bible verses can be projected onto screens to reinforce what the band
is communicating. People will be free to observe, just listen to the music, or
sing and worship along with us.
How much space is required for a live
performance?
While all stage settings vary, a stage area of approximately 30’ wide by 12’
deep is the best. Older style “pulpit” stages with multiple tiers and lots of
steps in a majority of the cases will not work for our format. Our drum area
alone requires an 8’ X 8’ area.
What are some things to expect when doing an
event? Depending on the number of people in attendance,
expect to provide some of the following:
-
In House Security - Managing large numbers of people is
important. People should be kept off the stage and away from
instruments, sound and lighting equipment at all times.
-
A Private Area for the Band - There should be a place where band
members and their families can get alone, discuss strategies for the event,
focus and pray before, during and after the show. This does not need
to be separate from other bands if they are present. Our goal is to
work together with everyone and minister in unity and power in the Holy
Spirit.
-
Food for band members and sound/road crew for all meals that fall
during the set up, sound check, event and tear down of the event.
Remember that people need to eat at different times because of their duties.
-
Housing for band members and crew if your venue is far enough
away from our home that we would need to stay overnight.
-
Merchandise Table - A table for merchandise or literature,
-
Load In/Load Out - We need up to 10 able bodied people to help at
time of unloading (beginning of the show) and reloading of equipment (end of
the show). Number of volunteers needed will vary related to size of
the show.
-
Contract - Please note the above list is
just general questions and answers. Any event will need to have a
contract agreement in order secure an event. Please remember that
our ministry has to operate as a business in areas related to the exchange
of money. You are hiring us to provide a service to you in order to
enhance the ministry of your church or organization. We are very easy
to work with. But we have to pay our bills. A contract is
something that holds people accountable to each other so that a work can be
accomplished.
Working with other bands - We love to work with other bands.
In fact, we look forward to it because we understand the struggles, work and
practice they went through to get to where they are. We share a common
ground. Whenever we play with Christian bands we also share a common
message. Music is a powerful tool to reach people with the Gospel or "Good
News" of Jesus Christ.
A Christian band is a group of musicians using their talents that God has given them to
bring glory to Him and also leading others to Him. Some
musicians realize this and others do not. Here are two verses that mark
our lives as Christian musicians:
"Let
the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another
with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with
gratitude in your hearts to God. And whatever you do, whether in word or deed,
do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through
him." Colossians 3: 16-17
We are all part of the Body of Christ (all living Christians) and desire to
work together with other brothers and sisters in Christ to build the Kingdom of
Jesus Christ while we are on this earth. There are no room for attitudes
of competition in the Body of Christ. We are to follow Jesus' command to love and serve
each other (John 13). Romans chapter 12, verse 3 says,
"For by the grace given me I say to
every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but
rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the measure of
faith God has given you."
Many of us in Just Rain
have played countless shows and performed in front of tens of thousands of
people over the past three decades. The older we get the more we realize
that music and our ability to play it is a gift from God. It is God who
lifts men and women to places of importance and usability in the Body of Christ.
With that being said, lets work together!
If you are a promoter, you should do everything in your power to encourage
bands to share the stage in unity and equality.
Length of Set - The promoter should
determine the length of the set that each band will play and each band should be
diligent to be accountable to the promoter.
Unity - Over the years, we have had
some great experiences with other bands. Our goal is to promote unity of
the bands to the audience. In past performances we even did a final song
together as a finale. This usually encourages the audience in very big
way. The more we can promote the Body of Christ, the better.
Do you have any questions that we should
add to this page? If so, email it to us. Thanks!
How can I talk to a person about
scheduling our band? We would be happy to
talk to you.
We look forward to meeting you!
